Presentation of the book Living Physics

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Museum of Međimurja Čakovec (Palace of the Old Town of Čakovec, Trg Republike 5), there will be a scientific-popular lecture and presentation of the book “Living Physics: Laws of Nature as Guides for Life” trip”, Dr. Zdeslav Hrepić.

The book was created through the author’s 25 years of experience in the education of natural sciences as a combination of natural and physical laws on the one hand, and psychology, life coaching and spiritual principles on the other. Traditional spiritual teachers regularly used parables between the laws of nature and the laws of living to explain their teachings, and today the same trend is strongly present in life coaches. Life coaching is the art and skill of helping people achieve their goals and overcome obstacles, and as an activity it has developed rapidly and expanded exponentially in the last two decades. One unusual feature of this development is that many physical terms such as leverage, focus, resonance, inertia, energy or quantum leap have found a firm place in its jargon.

That unusual combination is not really surprising because physics is the queen of science when it comes to describing, explaining and predicting how our world works. In the lecture, the author will present Living Physics as a method that systematically unifies these fascinating areas and transforms the laws of physics into practical and transformative life metaphors.

Zdeslav Hrepić graduated in physics and polytechnic at the PMFa teacher’s study in Split in 1998, then for two years he taught physics, technical culture and informatics in two elementary schools in Split. During that time, he received a scholarship for postgraduate studies from Kansas State University and went to the USA in 2000. There he earned a master’s degree in physics and a doctorate in didactics, i.e. Curriculum and Instruction.

Since 2004, he has been teaching a number of courses related to physics and the methodology of natural sciences at two state universities, becoming a full professor of physics. He has published more than 70 scientific papers with international reviews related to physics methodology, the application of educational technologies, active teaching strategies, the role of mental models in teaching, etc. Today, he is a professor of physics at the Josip Hatze Music School in Split and in several elementary schools on the island of Brač, where he lives with his wife Dijana. His focus in public appearances is aimed at promoting the principle that nature and its laws are life’s best guides and teachers.
